Big names battle for top prizes in Father’s Day 44-mile race

The nation’s bikers will be back in action today, battling for spoils in the Father’s Day 44-mile road race at West Demerara.

Today’s event will kick off from 08:00hrs at Schoonard, proceed to Parika and return to the point of origin for the finish.

The collaborative effort involving Banks DIH Limited and Carlton Wheelers Cycle Club will see the first six overall finishers being rewarded for their efforts with trophies and cash incentives. The top three finishers in each of the following categories; Juniors, Juveniles, Veterans and Ladies will also be rewarded.

With some of the big names plying their trade on the USA cycling circuit like National road race champion, Romello Crawford, Time Trial Champion, Raynauth Jeffrey along with standouts like Jamual John and Michael Anthony, the race may be may be wide open.

However, Independence Three-Stage winner, Briton John along with the likes of Paul DeNobrega and Christopher Griffith could be the riders at the front of the peloton vying for the podium sports.

The Club, and by extension the Guyana Cycling

Federation, is urging all riders and officials to exercise caution and stick within the national COVID-19 measures.

Since the start of 2021, cycling is one of the disciplines that has been able to remain relatively active. The hosting of its national championship towards the end of May being a major highlight.

The Guyana Cycling Federation has been doing its part to ensure cyclists and officials are in conformity with the COVID-19 measures, and this Sunday much of the same in anticipated when action resumes.
