C V Nunes students shine at NGSA

CV Nunes Primary, located at Anna Regina, managed to outshine the rest of the primary schools in Region Two at this year’s National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) as four of its students were among the top ten performers for the region.

Included among them is Region Two’s top performing student, 12-year-old Shreya Pratima Ramnarine, who wants to become a lawyer. She gained 517 marks at the examinations and secured a spot at Queen’s College.

Ramnarine, who is currently living at Anna Regina Housing Scheme, said she did a lot of studying on her own, especially during the pandemic. She thanked her parents, Ravindra and Lalina Ramnarine, for their support. Her mother, who is an English teacher, said that she knew that her daughter would perform well.

Bhavin Griffith, of Huis’T Dieren Primary School, copped second position in the region. He gained 516 marks and secured a position at Queen’s College. Griffith is also aspiring to become a lawyer. Griffith explained that it was really difficult to study, especially during the pandemic, and he therefore thanked his uncle Sunil Singh and his parents for their continued support, which helped him a great deal.

Taking the third position was 12-year old Aaisha Mohammed,

of Al Madinah Islamic School. She gained 510 marks and was also awarded a spot at Queen’s College. Mohammed, who could not hold back her excitement, said that she really did not expect to perform as well as she did. She expressed gratitude to her grandmother and her father for staying up with her late at night while she studied.

Jessica Inniss, of Fisher Primary School, also scored 510 marks and tied with Mohammed with the third position. Innis, who wants to become a doctor, said she was happy she earned a place at Queen’s College. Innis thanked her parents for their support.

Fifth position for the region

was Lukesh Deonarine of Taymonth Manor Primary. He wants to become a pilot. Deonarine, who had difficulties studying during the pandemic, thanked all the teachers of Taymonth Manor Primary for their help.

Karisham Dhanoopdarie, of C V Nunes Primary and Jada Welcome, of Aurora Primary tied for sixth position with 508 marks. Bavanie Gangoo of C V Nunes Primary copped the eight position with 507 marks while Esaara Persaud, of C V Nunes Primary, Kaysheena Singh, of Taymonth Manor Primary, and Nishanna Dial, of Huis’T Dieren Primary tied for ninth position in the region.
