CWIMA wishes WI success at T20 WC

Cricket West Indies Masters Association (CWIMA) has extended best wishes to the West Indies cricket team for what the body hopes to be a dominantly successful ICC T20 World Cup tournament in the UAE during the next few weeks.

West Indies are the reigning champions, having won the tournament in 2016. The Caribbean unit has also won the 2012 edition.

“We are cognizant of the fact that the team is a blend of matured and experienced players in this format of the game where we have been found to be the most successful in our exploits,” the association stated in a release.

“Most of our players would have had the benefit of recently playing in the CPL [Caribbean Premier League] in the Caribbean a few weeks ago and would have had some quality time to spend with their families and to recharge their batteries, whilst a few of them went on to ply their trade in the IPL [Indian Premier League] at the same venues where the World Cup will be played so they should all be match ready for T20 cricket,” it added.

CWIMA said that they were optimistic that West Indies could secure their third title and urged the fans and critics alike of West Indies cricket to rally around the team.

West Indies are set to play their first match on October 23.
