Example 1: Method 1

The numbers 4, 8, 12, and 16 are all multiples of 4. In order to obtain them, 4 is being multiplied by another number.

1 x 4= 4 2 x 4= 8 3x4=12 4 x 4=

16

Multiples can also be found by skip counting. If we skip count in 4s, we get:

4, 8, 12, 16 …

Therefore, 4, 8, 12 and 16 are multiples of 4.

N.B- Any number has an infinite amount of multiples, and every number is a multiple of itself.

Now, apply what you have learnt by completing the following exercises.

Activity 1

List the first five multiples of each of the following:

1. 4 2. 5 3. 6 4. 10 5. 20

Activity 2

1. Which of the following is a multiple of 7?

2. All of the following are multiples of 8, except: 3. The first three multiples of 13 are:
