Coalition parties did issue similar but separate statements of condemnation

Dear Editor, Sincerely, Sherwood Lowe

Your editorial on Friday (July 1) asserted incorrectly that: “There has been no substantial comment from APNU, but while one assumes they will condemn police actions, they should not ignore the violence directed against the vendors of Mon Repos market in particular.” Evidently, you have not been paying attention to the opposition’s press releases and conferences as you have to Irfaan Ali’s Facebook page.

The APNU+AFC stated in press statements (both on Tuesday and Thursday) that “while we reaffirm the right of citizens to engage in peaceful protests in their fight for justice, liberty, and equality, we condemn all acts of violence and criminality. Such acts only serve to undermine and distract from the legitimate aims of the protest action.”

The AFC also issued a similar but separate statement of condemnation on Tuesday, June 28. All this can be easily verified by checking the respective Facebook pages. Not sure how SN could have missed all that.
