Anna Regina municipality inks $18M in contracts

The Anna Regina Municipality in Region Two on Wednesday morning signed contracts for 11 projects worth a total of $18 million and which are geared towards the enhancement of the township.

At a simple signing ceremony held in the boardroom of the Anna Regina Town Council, Mayor Rajendra Prabhulall called on contractors to be responsible and accountable.

He noted that the projects fall under the council’s 2022 subvention and are spread across the township from Three Friends to Walton Hall. During his remarks to the contractors, Prabhulall urged them to provide local employment for those living in the respective communities and stated that residents will be consulted on the projects.

The Mayor also informed that there will be continuous monitoring of the 11 projects by councillors and warned contractors that substandard works will be rejected. He said that all projects should commence next Wednesday.

Town Clerk Diane Critchlow told contractors that the bill of quantities will be circulated to residents within various communities, and along with councillors, they will be supervising to ensure that the projects are of a high standard.

Meanwhile, Councillor Herman Persaud advised contractors to communicate with the Council regarding any changes they have to implement and to work according to the specifications in the contract documents. Persaud disclosed that all the projects awarded were the result of requests made by residents during community meetings.

Project one, which is the sourcing and supply of crusher run to the Anna Regina Town Council, is valued at $1,162,500 and was awarded to Beshaun Construction Service. Project Two, the construction of one 18ft x 2ft x 2ft concrete box culvert with headwalls in Telecoms street, Anna Regina, is worth $929,200 and was awarded to ICON Investment.

Project Three which entails the construction of one 20ft x 3ft x 3ft concrete box culvert with headwalls and self-acting door at Fisheries Road, Lima, was awarded to Narine’s Construction and General Supplies and has been costed at $1,338,000. Project Four, the construction of a sanitary block at Bushlot Market tarmac at a cost of $1,941,160 was awarded to Denesh Chattergoon and Son Construction and Electrical Contracting Service.

Project Five, the construction of a canteen at Anna Regina car park, at a cost of $1,921,209, was awarded to Infinity Contracting and General Services, while Project Six, a landfill on swamp reserve at Bushlot, costing $1,815,000, was awarded to VS Engineering and Investment.

Project Seven, the construction of a footpath bridge at Walton Hall was awarded to Javier and Vidiana General Construction Desilting and Supplies at $594,840, while Project Eight is the the rehabilitation of the western and southern fence at Anna Regina Town Council which was awarded to Bhowan Trucking and Construction services at $4,142,580. Project Nine which entails the construction of one 18ft x 2ft x 2ft concrete box culvert in Naipaul Street, Reliance, was awarded to Beharry’s Construction at $854,490, and Project Ten, the construction of a shed, walkway, and concrete slab in front of the sanitary block at the Anna Regina Car park was awarded to M&A construction and supplies at $1,204,055. The 11th and final project, the repair of the old trailer, was awarded to TRL Lumber yard at $675,000.
