Dhaniram brothers lead Windies Masters charge for Marborough Cup

Brothers Sudesh and Sunil Dhaniram will lead the West Indies O-50 team which will participate in the Marlborough Cup tour of the United Kingdom.

The tour commences tomorrow with the first Odem practice match against Wales beginning at 11.30am.

The team will play four more practice matches altogether.

They will play two practice matches in Wales then travel to London for another two practice ODIs at Broxbourne and Gravesend against England and India respectively before their opening game against Wales next Sunday in the Marlborough Cup.

They will then oppose India on July 11 in another Marlborough Cup fixture before opposing England in the final Marlborough Cup encounter on July 12.

The team with the most points at the end of the three-day tournament will be declared the winners.

Although missing some key players, the selectors have still been able to put together a very formidable lineup for this maiden tour of England and Wales. West Indies will be without William Lashley, Vejai Seonarine, Shiv Seeram, Krish Harricharan and Lawrence Pooran.

They will however, be buttressed by the inclusion of the Dhaniram brothers both of whom have previous experience in English conditions and who will be expected to play major roles for the

Windies Masters.

Sunil Dhaniram, who has represented both Guyana and Canada, is currently ranked at #46 in the World rankings after just one series in the Americas Cup.

Sudesh, who represented Guyana as an opening batsman, started out with consecutive centuries at the regional level and his experience will be invaluable.

The other West Indians in the top 50 rankings of the world are: Azad Mohammed-#25, dropping several points from #4; Fareed Hosein at #35; Zamin

Amin at #39; and Mohan Harihar at #40.

Kenny Girdharry will spearhead the bowling attack for the West Indies with support from seamers Mark Audain and Mohan Harihar.

Fareed Hosein is one of the top allrounders in the team and the only leg spinner in the squad and is expected to be a key player for the West Indies should they come out on top in this tournament.

Ishwar Maraj, who captained the Canada team at the ICC World Cup, could play a key role with the bat while

Anthony Sahadeo is the only newcomer to the side slotting in as its first-choice wicketkeeper.

Both Sahadeo and Sadeo are attacking batsmen and if they are chosen to open could form a very lethal pair as a lefthanded and right-handed combination. Ishwar Maraj has also opened for the West Indies.

The evergreen Zamin Amin, former captain of the USA team to the ICC World Cup, will lead the West Indies team.

CWIMA made a deliberate decision to include a few O60s players for this tour aimed at giving them some valuable match practice prior to their O60s World Cup in Brisbane, Australia in September.

All games will be live scored online and persons can login to the CWIMA website-www.windiescricket.org. Most of the games will also be live streamed.
