Publish the salaries for members of government and parliament

Dear Editor,

On the 7 August, 2022 the PPP held a fundraising softball competition and fish fry at the Jai Hind Cricket Ground, Albion to raise funds for the upcoming Local Government elections. I decided to support the event and went there with a few friends. During the course of the day, I and my friends were involved in a heated argument over the salaries of Ministers and parliamentarians in this country, and all of us were giving different figures for these individuals.

Editor, for the benefit of the people of this country, especially with the high cost of living people have to endure and the politicians are telling them that there is nothing they can do, because of the high cost of oil etc., I believe the public has the right to know what are the salaries of the President, Vice President, Ministers and Parliamentarians of this country so that people can see what our leaders are earning compared to what the ordinary sugar worker, public servant, bauxite worker, teacher, nurse and policeman is earning.

If the individual salary is not available, at least the average salary for a minister and parliamentarian and the President and Vice President should be published, because after all they are being paid by the people of this country.

Sincerely,

Imtiaz Baccus
