Fire destroys Angoy’s Avenue house

A fire of unknown origin completely destroyed a one-storey two-bedroom house in Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam yesterday morning.

According to information gathered, Carlton Sinclair, 74, resided at the Lot 404 Patrick Dam, Angoy’s Avenue residence alone. His son Conrad Sinclair explained, that they received a message just around 11.15 am yesterday that the house was on fire.

After arriving at the scene, the man discovered that the entire house was engulfed in flames.

He said his father was not at home at the time of the fire “and thank God for that.” Stabroek News was told, that the elderly man was at another location watching his grandson, a national cricketer, play cricket.

The man’s son explained, that the entire house was fully furnished. “He had everything in deh… He lil hard ears, he like live alone and don’t want we touch anything but thank God that he alive and he wasn’t home.”

Conrad noted that relatives were planning to build a new structure for the elderly man.

The Guyana Fire Service has since launched an investigation into the fire.
