Helena ballfield denied to children but not to the ‘wet and nasty’ jouvert event

Dear Editor, Sincerely, K. Ram

Over the years, there have been requests by residents of Helena to have a small area set aside as a playground for children at the ballfield at the back of the village. This was met by rejection by the local NDC. Residents were willing to purchase the necessary equipment and develop a small space for children but were told they couldn’t. Children now rarely go to the ballfield to play games.

It came as a shock to see that, and it sickens me to write these words, a “Wet and Nasty Jouvert” event has been approved at the very Helena ground for tomorrow, Saturday, March 25, during daytime hours when children are at home and the event would be visible to them. I’m assuming the local NDC gave permission for the event. Who would be responsible for the cleanup and maintenance of the ground after this event?

Our nation is already extensively lawless and morally bankrupt. I am often astounded at the way our youth conduct themselves. The moves made by those in charge show no attempt to stem the tide but to instead contribute to it.
