23rd Cheddi Jagan Memorial cycle road race set for tomorrow

The annual Dr. Cheddi Jagan Memorial 55-mile cycle road race is scheduled to get off to a fast start tomorrow in Berbice from 08:00hrs.

As was the tradition over the years, the event gets underway from outside the People’s Progressive Party/Civic’s Freedom House office on Main Street, New Amsterdam, proceeds to Springlands Police Station, and returns to Babu Johns School for the finish.

On the upward journey of the race, only the ladies and Over 50 veterans will finish at the Babu Johns School.

Cyclists are asked to take note that transportation from Georgetown to Berbice will depart from Freedom House Office on Robb Street, at 05:30hrs.

In the last edition, Curtis Dey of Team Evolution was the first to finish on the western end of the Demerara Harbour Bridge after starting the 45mile race at Schoonord and turning at Bushy Park, Parika.

He was timed at one hour, 41 minutes, 34.75 seconds (01:41:34.75s), winning ahead of the Kaieteur Attack Racing pair Deeraj Garbarran and Andre Greene, Christopher Griffith, Geron Williams and Paul DeNobrega who filled out the top six rewarding positions.
