Scorpions make strong reply after Imlach’s maiden ton

A maiden first-class century from Tevin Imlach ensured Guyana Harpy Eagles leave the Jamaican Scorpions an imposing task of scoring 458 runs but the Scorpions, at close of play were in the strong position of 176-1.

They require 282 more runs with nine wickets in hand on today’s final day of their fourth-round clash in the West Indies Championship to score a remarkable come-from-behind victory.

At the wicket are Tevin Gilzene not out on 81 and Jermaine Blackwood who is unbeaten on 66.

When the Scorpions commenced their second innings, Ronsford Beaton removed Leroy Lugg for just 10 to provide the early breakthrough.

However, Gilzene and Blackwood consolidated with an unbroken partnership of 166 for the second wicket.

Gilzene’s innings of 81 from 134 balls was laced with 14 boundaries while his skipper, Blackwood’s 66 not out has come from 124 balls.

Earlier, the Harpy Eagles resumed day three at the National Stadium, Providence on 138 for four with a healthy lead of 301.

That was converted to 294 for seven and Eagles declared after 92.4 overs, setting Scorpions a target of 458 runs for victory.

Imlach duly converted his overnight score of 50 to 136 not out. The right-hander carved 14 boundaries

during his 217-ball ordeal. Imlach piled on 175 runs for the fifth wicket with Tagenarine Chanderpaul who added 29 to his overnight total before he was trapped leg before wicket for 89 to Blackwood. Chanderpaul stroked 12 boundaries

while facing 249 balls. Kevin Sinclair and Gudakesh Motie each made 18 as Marquino Mindley picked up his best bowling figures of 6-54. The action resumes today at 10.00 hours with the match in the balance.
