Cummings St man charged over gun and ammo

Twenty-five-year-old Josea Angel Soto of Lot 62 Cummings Street, Georgetown, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday before Magistrate Annette Singh to answer to the charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.

It is alleged that on May 27, at James Street, Albouystown, Georgetown, he had in his possession a .38 revolver without being the holder of a firearm licence at that time.

It is also alleged that on May 27, at James Street, Albouystown,

Georgetown, he had in his possession .38 live ammunition without being the holder of a firearm licence at that time.

The accused pleaded not guilty to both charges.

The police prosecutor told the court that the defendant was visiting his girlfriend where an altercation erupted which resulted in the neighbours calling the police. The police responded and as part of their investigation, conducted a search of the building. In a room within the building the ammunition was discovered while the .38 revolver was found in

Soto’s pants pocket. He was then informed of the allegation against him and under caution he told the police he had no knowledge of what was going on. He was subsequently taken to the police station and charged.

Bail was refused and the magistrate remanded the defendant to prison until July 05.
