Dharry arriving tonight for Return of the Scorpio card

Elton Dharry

“Elton (Dharry) is arriving tonight, the Barbadians are coming in tomorrow midday and the Spanish speakers are arriving Friday morning.”

So said promoter of the ‘Return of the Scorpio’ boxing card, Seon Bristol in an update to the media yesterday ahead of Saturday’s event at the National Gymnasium.

According to Bristol, “Everything is on stream for an exciting night of fistic fury.”

Bristol also revealed that the weigh in and ceremonial face off of the combatants will take place at the Everest Cricket Club pavilion tomorrow from noon to 14:00hrs.

“The card will be livestreamed internationally on various social media platforms and it will be an electrifying evening of action,” he declared.

Tickets can be purchased at the sole location of Hot & Spicy Creole Corner. The prizes are:

VVIP $10,000, VIP $6000, Ringside $3000, and Stands $1000.

The ‘Return of the Scorpio’ Pro/Am Card is viewed by many pundits as the biggest event in more than a decade and is expected to exceed the overall quality and ambiance of the universally

acclaimed Patrick Forde Memorial Championships, which is the benchmark for a local boxing event.

Five exciting professional bouts which will be headlined and co-headlined by Dharry and Dexter ‘De Kid’ Marques respectively, as well as an amateur section of equal quality, are confirmed.

Dharry will make his return to the ring against Ronald Ramos in an eight-round Bantamweight fixture whilst Marques will enter the squared circle against Luis Carrillo in an eight-round Super Bantamweight encounter.

A Caribbean rivalry will also resume as Terrence Adams will battle Barbadian Ricardo Blackman, while Anthony Augustin will oppose Emmanuel Anderson also of Barbados. The card will also feature a six-round Super Flyweight bout between females Natalya Delgado and Darianis Garcia.

The amateur segment will be headlined by local stars, sisters, Alesha and Abiola Jackman.

Jamaica’s Britney MacFarlane is the confirmed opponent for Alesha whilst Trinidad and Tobago’s champion Lee Ann Boodram will engage Abiola, the older sibling of Alesha.

The sisters are the first-ever Guyanese female pugilists to attain a world ranking from the International Boxing Association (IBA), after their participation at the Women’s World Championships in New Delhi, India.

Abiola is now ranked 27th in the world in the Elite Women 81 and over Kg or heavyweight division, with Alesha seeded 58th in the Elite Women 60-63 Kg or junior welterweight division.

The fight night will mark Dharry’s return to the ring in over a year and will serve as a tune-up for his July encounter on local shores with Hugo Hernandez of Mexico for the WBC Silver Belt. Dharry, 37, fought for the WBA Super flyweight title in 2019 but suffered a controversial ninth-round stoppage loss to

Australian Andrew Maloney in Melbourne.
