City chamber meets NIS on improving efficiency
Following concerns raised by its membership about issues being encountered with the National Insurance Scheme (NIS), the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) on September 13, 2023, met with NIS General Manager, Holly Greaves, to discuss gaps and the need for improved efficiency in the Scheme’s operations.
A statement from GCCI said that Greaves was accompanied to the meeting by a number of management officials, while present on behalf of the Chamber were President, Kester Hutson; Secretary, Kathy Smith; Council member, Mary Nagasar and member, Melisa George.
Issues raised during the meeting included delays in the processing of benefit claims, complications with the issuing of compliance certificates, lack of efficiency with the processing of contributions, and digitisation of the system. The GCCI emphasized the need for the agency to adapt to the rapid growth of the private sector. Use of technology and capacity building are paramount,
